House fire at No3 Clavering street east

March 1st 2011 10.57pm
Last night saw yet another fire of many to hit Clavering street east. This time building No3 was evacuated after firemen brought the fire under control. Where smoke gushed from the front door of the building. Filling the street & night sky with acrid smoke.
Fire crews quickly went through the two upper right flats, then after opening the top flat. Yet more smoke poured out into the street and any fire inside was soon brought under control.
As I arrived two fire engines where already on the scene & shortly followed by at least three more and just as many ambulances drove around the neighbouring streets. All to attend what could easily have been a mass fatality scenario. If not from the flames then certainly from the thick smoke that engulfed the entire stare case.
Luckily the public where brought out safely and appeared unharmed, as ambulance and police officers ushered them too one side out of harms way.
Homes in Clavering street along with shops in Well street where also effected by the fire. As flames knocked out electricity supplyies, plunging homes into & buisness into darkness. Resulting in electricians habing to work late into the night in order to restore power.
Then early this morning one fire crew returned to the building which appeared to be undamaged on the out side. But as for what caused the blaze like so many unexplained fire to hit the west end if late. I have no idea but no doubt time will tell.

Shop keepers in Well St said, they'd heard roomers it was a wheelie bin that was set on fire. This was later confirmed by a couple living in the building, who later said. “It looks like a wheelie bin was dragged into the back of the close, set on fire & where children live. This would explain the stench I’ve smelt many times before in this street. Where past wheelie bins where deliberately set on fire. A smell I pointed out during the fire, to an old guy now living in sheltered here in the west end. Where he once said, "Was a great place too live, till the council started moving in all the junkies." Much like where he use to live and where the older folk where diven from homes they expected to live their lives out in, as a result of endless drug crime. One other neighbour further added to the roomers.“The fire was being treated as arson after some idiot put a burning wheelie bin into the electrical cupboard. As for the second fire on the top floor, this may have been either further arson or caused by a power surge. Worse still, toddlers live in that close. Clavering street No3 Burnt out Stair Case.

March 6th 2011 I’m just back from No3 Clavering street, where one couple where moving out and kindly allowed me inside to have a look around at the fire damage. Before going in I spotted the front door of the building had it’s windows kicked in and this after those inside have been driven from their homes after an arsonist had almost killed everyone. What use to be a red carpeted hall way was now covered in black smoke & plaster which had fallen from the walls and ceiling as a result of the intense heat. One Person who lived in the close said, “They where about to go to bed when they smelt smoke, which had trapped them inside. Only for the firemen to later shout up at them to remain at the front window till help arrived.” They also complained the front door to the private building was so crap, anyone could bump it open with their shoulder. Plus why didn’t the council fit a new door to their building given all he crime that’s been happening in this street. The building from top to bottom was covered in thick black soot and the lower you went down the landings. The worse the plaster damage got as it barely clung to the walls. At the back of the building it was plain too see the fire was started in the electrical cupboard. Now a burnt out shell & the high power cables burnt right back to the bare copper wire. If you have any suspicions or information of any kind please call crime stoppers. These fires are being started all to often here in the west end and this time many where lucky to flee with their life’s. It’s only a matter of time this or these individuals kill someone for real.
